Venturers are for youth 14 to 17 years of age and Rovers are for men and women 18 to 26 years of age.
In the 49th Scout Group we have combined the Venturers and Rovers into a first aid specialty unit called S.E.R.T. (Scout Emergency Response Team). Although the name suggests we actively do search and rescue, we are actually are called upon primarily to provide first aid services for other Scouting and community events and camps.
The members of SERT elect their own exceutive and select their advisors. Although their is the common bond of first aid and service for both Venturer and Rover members, their are differences in their personal goal systems.
The Venturer program emphasizes having fun while encouraging teens to feel good about themselves, their friends and family, God, and the environment. Venturers helps teens advance their leadership skills and gain self confidence.
Venturers promotes activities that encourage teens to:

- explore vocational opportunities
- participate in a variety of social, cultural and spiritual activities
- work cooperatively in adult-like settings

- become aware of and respond to needs of the community and the environment
Venturing emphasizes outdoor and environmental activities, citizenship and community service, leadership and personal development, andcareer exploratioin. Individual interests and skills are recognized through an awards system.
The Venturer Motto is: Challenge.
The Rover program is built around the theme of service and is also intended as a venue for members to participate in adventurous outdoor activities.
The Rover Motto is: Service.
The Venturers and Rovers have the same promise:

I promise that I will do my best
To do my duty to God and the Queen
