Please note the following times closely - registrations will only occur during times posted: Registration Time Race Start Time Cub Scouts 9:00-9:45am 10:00 am Beaver Scouts 11:00-11:45am 1:00 pm Scouts 1:00-1:45pm 2:00pm What to bring: •Beaver, Cub, Scout in full/formal uniform •Beaver Buggy, Kub Kar, or Scout Semi •$5.00 registration (crest, hotdog, loot bag, whole lot of fun), try to bring exact change please. •Tin for the bin (with a goal of collecting 1000 pounds for Winnipeg Harvest) •Parents to bring lawn chair - racing will be on an arena floor with no seating. •Groups are encouraged to make & bring group banners with a racing theme to hang on the boards and glass •A canteen will be available to purchase lunch, snacks and beverages Rules & regulations 1. KUB KAR - must be new from this Scouting year (2010-2011) - last year's model is Not Permitted to race in this year's meets. 2. RACING - All Kub Kars must be raced by a Cub wearing the proper nationally approved uniform. 3. WHEELS AND AXLES - Axles are to be used as furnished. Wheels may be very lightly sanded to remove casting tracks on wheels. The riding surface of the wheels is not to be painted or polished and the wheel is not to be filled with additional weight. 4. CLEARANCE - Kub Kar chassis must not be lowered below 3/8 inch (.95cm). Failure to ensure this may result in the bottom of the Kub Kar dragging on the race strip. 5. FRONT - Due to the type of starting mechanism used on the tracks, the front of the Kub Kar must have a flat centred horizontal surface, no less than 1 inch (2.5.4 cm) in length and no greater than 5/8 inch (1.6 cm) off the track. NOTE: Kub Kars that do not conform to the above can cause difficulties during starts and therefore may not be allowed to race. 6. WIDTH - Overall width shall not exceed 2 3/4 inch (7 cm), this width may include fenders, side pipes, running boards, or any other accessories desired by the builder. 7. LENGTH - Overall length shall not exceed 7 inches (17.8cm) 8. HEIGHT - Height is not to exceed 3 inches (7.6.cm) anywhere on the kar. 9. WEIGHT - Total weight shall not exceed 142.0g. No loose materials of any kind are permitted in the car. The car may be hollowed out and built up to the maximum weight by the addition of wood or metal only, provided it is securely attached to the body or chassis. A Cub whose car is too heavy may ask the pit crew to remove some wood to reduce the weight. Pit crew can also be asked to secure other weights supplied by the Cub to the car if it is too light. 10. WHEEL BEARINGS - Washers and bushings are PROHIBITED. 11. SPRINGING - Kub Kars shall not ride on any type of springs. 12. DETAILS - Details such as steering wheel, driver, decals, painting, and interior details are permissible. These additional details shall NOT cause the Kub Kar to exceed the maximum weight or dimensions. A Cub may ask the pit crew to secure a detail that has become loose during transport to the event. Pit crew can also be asked to secure details that have come loose during the race, but only just prior to the design judging. 13. ATTACHMENTS - The Kub Kar must be freewheeling with no starting device. 14. CONSTRUCTION – Wood supplied from kit is the only wood allowed to be used. 15. LUBRICATION – No oil or wet lubricants permitted - only dry type lubrication is permissible. Lubrication shall not soil the track or interfere with subsequent races on that track. Lubrication is not permitted between races. The pit crew will apply graphite to the axles and wheels of each car inspected, 16. INSPECTION - Each Kub Kar must pass inspection by the official inspection committee before it may compete. The inspector has the right to disqualify those Kub Kars which do not meet these specifications. Pit Crew decisions are final. 17. ABSENTEE - On the day of the race, Kub Kars may have a substitute driver (another Cub in uniform) if the owner is not able to attend the full event. Cubs can only race one Kub Kar. All 18 Wheeler Derby trucks competing must abide by these rules. Note: Due to a shortage of 18 Wheeler Kits – a Scout’s 09//10 truck may be raced LENGTH, WIDTH, CLEARANCE, WEIGHT & APPEARANCE: • Trucks will conform to the specification sheet below these rules. • Details such as steering wheels, drivers, spoilers, decals, painting and interior details are permissible as long as these details allow the truck to meet the length, width, height, and weight limitations. All details must be permanently attached. No loose materials are allowed (i.e. not rattling). All weights must be solidly attached. • Trailer does not have to be the box as supplied in kit • The 5th Wheel must operate. Cab and trailer must be able to be disconnected. • The model will consist of a tractor (truck part) having 10 wheels, and a trailer having 8 wheels. WHEELS, AXLES, LUBRICATION: • Only the wheels and axles supplied in the Scouts Canada kits may be used. • Wheel bearings, washers, springs or bushings of any kind are prohibited. • The truck must be freewheeling with no starting device or other propulsion. • Only dry lubricant may be used, such as dry graphite. Silicone spray, WD-40 or oil may not be used as it may soften the plastic wheels. Truck Construction Specifications: 18-wheelers must conform to the following construction specifications: 18 Wheeler Truck & Trailer Specifications A Maximum Weight Cab and Trailer 700 grams maximum B Maximum Length 44.5 cm / 17½ inches C Overall Height 11.5 cm / 4½ inches D Maximum Outside Width 9.5 cm / 3¾ inches E Minimum Width Between Inside of Wheels 4.5 cm / 1¾ inches F Minimum Clearance Between the Chassis & the Track 0.95 cm / 3/8 inches G Wheels and Axles Scouts Canada Kit Issue H The 5th Wheel must operate! (Cab and trailer can be unhitched) The official specifications are metric. Imperial measurement is for reference only. RACING - All Trucks must be raced by a Scout wearing the proper nationally approved uniform (formal or activity). INSPECTION - Each Truck must pass inspection by the official inspection committee (pit crew) before it may compete. The inspector has the right to disqualify those trucks which do not meet these specifications. Pit Crew decisions are final. 1) The pit crew will apply graphite to the axles and wheels of each rig inspected. Pit Crew will also ensure all wheels spin freely before the racing begins. 2) A Scout whose rig is too heavy may ask the pit crew to remove some material to reduce the weight. Pit crew can also be asked to secure other weights supplied by the Scout to the rig if it is too light. 3) A Scout may ask the pit crew to secure a detail that has become loose during transport to the event. Pit crew can also be asked to secure details that have come loose during the race, but only just prior to the design judging. 4) Pit crew will be available to replace any wheels that come loose during racing.
